January 2022 Newsletter

Greetings ECA members.  Happy New year!
2022 marks the 75th anniversary of the Evergreen Chrysanthemum Association.
Reflecting back on 2020 and 2021 we’ve had a few years of challenges and opportunities.  We tried some new things including an on line public plant sale, a floral exhibition in the midst of a pandemic, remote meetings and our very first video presentation. We also had the challenge of an unprecedented heat wave, coaching our new members remotely and learning new technology.
I want to thank you all for hanging in there with Evergreen Chrysanthemum Association as we stretch our skillsets, learn from our mistakes and do the best we can to continue the 75 year legacy of our club and propagate the passion we have for growing exhibition chrysanthemums.  Looking forward to a great year ahead for our club and our membership.
With this cold snap hovering over the Pacific Northwest, I hope you are all hunkered down safe and warm.  Over the course of the past week we had over 17 inches of snow at our house and temps nearing single digits.  This is the type of bone chilling weather that will kill our Chrysanthemum plant stools.  It is best to store plant stools in a cool, (not frigid) dry place.  So we have heaters in our green house keeping the temps just barely above freezing.
I have a lot of information to share in this newsletter so bear with me. I hope you feel its worth the read.  We will be discussing all of this information at our January 8th meeting
One of our members is downsizing and has Chrysanthemum growing supplies including various sizes of pots, grow lights, heating mats, stakes, soil, starting trays, fertilizer, and a 10 x 20 green house that will be donated to our club.  These supplies will be available at our January meeting on a first come first serve basis.
